Hawks arrest three suspects for corruption after attempted bribe to release an impounded vehicle

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has arrested three suspects age between 31 and 42 for attempting to corrupt a senior Hawks official in Polokwane on Saturday.

The suspects allegedly approached a Lieutenant Colonel attached to the Asset Forfeiture section and requested her to release their vehicle that was caught transporting illicit cigarettes in return for R7500 gratification.

The trio was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation members in Polokwane soon after handing over the money.

All the suspects will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Monday to face corruption charges.

In another separate but similar incident, a 34 year old suspect was also arrested by the same team for allegedly attempting to entice the commander of Seshego Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit into accepting R2000 gratification in order to release his impounded vehicle.

The accused, Vincent Nnyatsa Mokoana has since appeared in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court and granted R1000 bail until his next court date on 11 November 2020.
