Five suspects apprehended in Milnerton and Strand for the illegal possession of firearms

Police members from the Maitland Flying Squad pulled over a vehicle yesterday while conducting crime prevention patrols. They conducted a search and found a pistol, hidden under the back seat. Three suspects, aged 29, 30 and 36 were arrested on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town magistrate’s court on Friday (2020-0925).
In an unrelated matter, Lwandle police and a traffic officer arrested two armed robbery suspects yesterday (2020-09-23).
Two suspects approached a dairy delivery truck parked in front of a shop at Milton Street in Nomzamo, Lwandle and they fired two shots and hit a passenger in the stomach. They robbed the victim of his cellular phone and then fled the scene.
They proceeded to Sithunzi Street and approached a driver of a white Opel Corsa LDV who was delivering sweets at a shop. They pointed the driver with a firearm and hijacked his car. They drove away towards N2 highway direction Cape Town.
As the police were patrolling, the driver approached them and informed them that his car was hijacked. Police pursued the suspects and mobilized other members.
As the suspects were approaching Khayelitsha, a traffic officer approached them in oncoming traffic in an attempt to stop them and effect an arrest. The hijacked vehicle overturn and the suspects sustained minor injuries. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Both suspects aged 22 were arrested and are facing charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, hijacking, possession an unlicensed firearm. The will appear in the Strand magistrates’ court tomorrow, 25 September 2020.
