Three firearms seized, three suspects to appear in court after reportedly hijacked vehicle is intercepted

Yesterday at 16:00, a multi-disciplinary operation was conducted at Etete area as part of the festive season operations.

A suspicious vehicle with three male occupants was spotted by the team at Etete area which falls under Umhlali policing precinct. The said vehicle was intercepted and upon searching the vehicle, the police found three illegal firearms with ammunition. Two of the recovered firearms were found to be toy guns. The preliminary investigation was conducted at the scene and revealed that the vehicle was hijacked in Mariannhill area on 12 December 2020.

Three suspects aged between 22 and 31 were placed under arrest for charges of possession of a stolen property, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspects are appearing before the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court today.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the team for the arrest of the suspects.
