Dispute over a tattoo leads to a stabbing in the Verulam CBD

A man was stabbed after he refused to provide details regarding his tattoos to an intoxicated individual on Todd Street in the Verulam CBD earlier today (Thursday).

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene by the onlookers who witnessed the stabbing. On arrival the victim explained that he was chatting to friends when an intoxicated man who was not known to him enquired about his tattoos. He informed the man that he was busy and did not want to speak to him. The suspect left and returned a short while later. He drew an Okapi pocket knife (picture 3) and stabbed the man without warning. The suspect then fled into a bar.

The victim provided Reaction Officers with a clothing description of the suspect. After a brief search a suspect matching the description was located in the bar. As Reaction Officers approached the suspect he removed his knife from his pocket. Officers subdued and placed him under arrest as he was attempting to open the blade. The victim was transported privately to a medical facility where he was treated for his injury.

The suspect was handed over to the Verulam SAPS.
