Wanted suspect sought by Pietermaritzburg police

Pietermaritzburg SAPS detectives are urging the community to assist in locating a wanted suspect Thembisa Madliwa on the attached picture. A warrant for her arrest has been issued by the court.

It is alleged by the complainant that on 9 April 2020 at 12:00, she signed an offer to purchase a house at Bisley in Pietermaritzburg and was informed of the lawyers that will assist in terms of the transfers. An amount of R157 000-00 was then deposited to the account number that was provided to the complainant by the lawyers. The complainant was surprised when she received a call from the lawyers that the money was not paid. That is when she noticed that she was defrauded of her money.

A case of fraud was opened at Pietermaritzburg SAPS for further investigation. The investigation conducted revealed that Thembisa Madliwa (25) allegedly intercepted communication via the complainant and the attorneys by hacking the email. The suspect allegedly sent fraudulent banking details to the complainant. The complainant subsequently deposited the money into the suspect’s banking details.
