Fleeing robbers fire random shots in Verulam

Three men fired shots randomly after they robbed a businessman of an undisclosed amount of cash outside a liquor wholesaler on Palm Street in Verulam.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded in force at approximately 09:39 after several calls were received of a possible armed robbery in progress at the liquor wholesaler. While on the route the occupants of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie flagged Reaction Officers down stating that while parked outside the wholesaler they were accosted by three men who robbed them of their cash.

Two suspects were armed with firearms which they used to threaten the two men and a seven-year-old female in the bakkie. The robbers were specific and asked the driver for his bag containing the cash.

After handing over the bag the gunmen began firing shots randomly. They then fled in a dark grey Hyundai i10 with an NP or NPN registration. The vehicle was seen heading towards Redcliffe. Reaction Officers are currently searching for the suspects.

No injuries were reported.
