Police arrest man for large amount of undeclared cash

A 57-year-old male suspect was on Tuesday, 05 January 2021 nabbed by the police in Musina at about 10:00 for contravention of Customs and Exercise Act.

The suspect believed to be a foreign national was arrested for allegedly being found with an undeclared cash amount of money of more than one hundred and sixty thousand rands (R165 060.00).

The arrest emanated after the police were on routine patrol duties along N1 North road between Beitbridge border post and Musina town.

It is reported that the suspect was walking with other pedestrians when he was spotted by the police while carrying a portable blue cooler bag and stopped him.

Police searched him and discovered a large amount of cash packed inside the cooler bag which he failed to explain its origin and was immediately arrested.

Preliminary investigations at the scene revealed that the suspect was in the country illegally and the money was not declared at the border post.

The suspect is expected to appear before Musina magistrate court tomorrow on Thursday, 07 January 2021.

The police investigations are continuing.
