Two people died in collision in Motherwell

Two people died and two others were injured including a 4-year-old girl in a motor vehicle collision that took place this morning in Tyinira Street in Motherwell.

It is alleged that at about 10:00, a white Toyota Tazz with four occupants including the driver, two females and a child were traveling from Sandile Street into Tyinira Street. According to police information, it is further alleged that the Toyota Tazz took a wide left turn into Tyinira Street after failing to stop at the stop sign. The vehicle turned into the path of an oncoming truck. The truck hit the Toyota Tazz while at the same time as the Toyota Tazz turned an Algoa bus traveling straight on the road collided into the Toyota Tazz from behind. The Toyota Tazz vehicle was sandwiched by both vehicles.

The driver, 35-years-old from the Tazz passed away on the scene. The back seated passenger, a 39-year-old female also passed away. The front seated passenger, a female approx. 40 years old and the 4-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital. Both the truck and bus drivers did not sustain any injuries. The bus was empty at the time and the truck driver was alone in his vehicle.

Police have opened a culpable Homicide case for investigation.
