Suspects in alleged mob justice killing arrested

A Motherwell detective arrested two suspects, aged 35 and 34-year-old for the alleged killing of a 50-year-old man in NU 29 on 29 December 2020.

It is alleged that on 29 December 2020 at about 01:30, Goodman Gegese was taken from his house in New Town in Motherwell by an angry mob.

They accused him of committing housebreakings in the area. He was severely assaulted and thereafter brought back to his residence and dumped in his front yard where he passed away.

Intensive investigations were conducted in the area by investigating officer, D/W/O Marrilyn Jungli and her constant persistence paid off when the two suspects were arrested yesterday. The first suspect, a 35-year-old male was arrested at about 11:00 at Motherwell detective office and the second suspect was arrested at about 14:10 at a shopping complex in Motherwell. Further arrests are expected.

Both suspects will appear in the Motherwell magistrates’ court on Thursday, 14 January 2021 on charges of kidnapping and murder.
