Police nail shebeen kingpin in Kimberley

Police closed down the kingpin’s shebeen and left him wondering when they bust him subsequent to find him illegally dealing in liquor.

On Sunday, 17 January 2021, the Northern Cape Provincial SAPS members acted on a tip-off and bust a 63-year-old man for illegally dealing in liquor, flouting the adjusted Level 3 Covid-19 Regulations. The suspect was found selling liquor from his house at an inflated price to the public. He had no valid liquor trading license or a license to operate a tavern from his house, situated in Newton Road, Beaconsfield.

Liquor found on the kingpin’s pin’s premises, valued at R4800 was confiscated.

Crime prevention and Adjusted Level 3 Covid-19 Regulations enforcement, continued in Galeshewe, Kimberley, Green Point, and Roodepan to ensure that the public adheres to Lockdown Regulations.

In a separate incident, a group of people was found gathered in Phuthanang in Galeshewe, busy buying and drinking fermented beer and alcohol.

Persons found on the premises were found not wearing face masks and were ordered to disperse. The owner was slapped with a fine and fermented beer was disposed of.

Public members are warned not to drink homemade alcohol, as the effects thereof can be dangerous. Enforcement and monitoring of Covid 19 regulations for compliance are continuing.
