Hijackers arrested and a firearm recovered

A joint operation by the Durban Central and the Provincial Crime intelligence members led to the arrest of three men between the ages of 20 and 30 last night.

Last night at 20h30 Crime Prevention members were conducting crime prevention duties in the Durban CBD.

They received information about an attempted hijacking that was taking place in Castle Hill Road, Newlands West whereby three men had tried to hijack an Uber driver of which one suspect was in possession of a firearm. The victim retaliated by stabbing the suspects with a sharp object which resulted in the suspects fleeing into a nearby bush and two of them sustained severe stab wounds.

While searching for the suspects the members received information that the suspects that were injured were proceeding to the Hospital in town.

On further investigation, it was established that the suspects are also wanted in another Carjacking committed at Inanda last month.

The team proceeded to the hospital where three suspects were arrested, one was found with no injuries and two were seriously injured.

A firearm with the serial number filed off was recovered.

The two injured suspects are currently admitted to the hospital and are under police guard.

The suspect will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of attempted carjacking.
