An intelligence operation was conducted yesterday afternoon by police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit in the Bayview area to search for suspects involved in drug-related cases.

The operation reaped good results when a 24-year-old man was arrested. The team advanced to Summerfield Drive in Bayview where a suspect was detected near a block of flats where he was selling drugs. The suspect attempted to flee but he was caught by police. He was searched and found in possession of 725 pieces of rock cocaine and 67 mandrax tablets. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R54 000-00.

A further search was conducted in the nearby bushes and police recovered 500 rounds of ammunition. The ammunition was found abandoned. The suspect is appearing this morning before the Chatsworth Magistrates Court for possession and dealing in drugs.
