MasterDrive honoured to be part of the Simola Hillclimb

The annual Simola Hillclimb concluded on Sunday to great success. After the challenges faced by the industry and many others like it, it was encouraging to see motoring enthusiasts have the opportunity to start returning to a favourite motoring event for many drivers across South Africa.

The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says the team was honoured to be part of the event. “Nothing quite explains the experience of being there in person and we look forward to when that can happen again. For now, though, motoring enthusiasts still had the opportunity to show off their skills and those that could not be there could still witness the event via livestream or TV broadcast.

“The fact that Simola Hillclimb is a motoring event with a rich history and has been hosted successfully for 11 years within the challenges that COVID-19 presented is something to be proud of. It once again allowed competitors the opportunity to engage in motorsport where they could test their endurance and show their commitment to the sport.”

It was a privilege to be part of the event. “MasterDrive was fortunate to be part of the event as drivers of the safety cars in their Ford Mustangs from their new TrackMaster experience. As can be expected, there were some incidents but luckily none were major or resulted in serious injury.

“As safety forms the major part of MasterDrive’s ethos, we were more than happy to assume the role of getting the officials quickly and safely to do whatever possible to ensure that each incident had as positive an outcome as was possible.”

The MasterDrive team looks forward to being part of the next event planned for May 2022 provided COVID-19 does not present any unexpected challenges. “It was a thrilling event and one that not only allowed us to experience this thrill but prioritise safety as well,” says Herbert.
