Trio in court for finance fraud

The accused Daniel Justice Swan (57), and Msala Solomon Tshabalala (51) as well as Phiri Benjamin Mopeli (48) appeared before the Bethlehem Magistrates’ Court on Thursday,09 September 2021 where they faced charges of fraud, uttering, and forgery.

They were arrested on Thursday, 09 September 2021 by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bethlehem. It is alleged that in June 2019 Swan, Tshabalala and Mopeli used fraudulent employment contract documents to apply for a motor vehicle finance at Wesbank. As a result, the bank suffered a total loss of more than R785 000.

The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further investigation which culminated in the arrest of the trio and their first appearance in court.

The case against the accused has been remanded to Thursday, 16 September 2021 for formal bail application.
