Eight suspects arrested on charges ranging from attempted murder to possession of unlicensed firearms

The vigilance of members of the Western Cape Flying Squad led to the arrest of eight suspects between the ages of 18 and 34 on charges relating to attempted murder, theft of the motor vehicle, and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

This morning at about 10:30 the members were busy observing a suspicious Nissan LDV vehicle, which upon closer investigation was found to be stolen on a Harare case. At an intersection in Belhar eight suspects jumped off the LDV and ran in different directions after members stopped behind it. All the suspects were apprehended. One suspect ran over a busy intersection onto a field and was chased by a member of the Maitland Flying Squad. The suspect fired numerous shots at the member. The member returned fire and wounded him. The injured suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment under police guard. Members seized the firearm from the injured suspect and an imitation firearm was seized from one of the suspects who were arrested earlier.

The suspects are due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s on Monday, 11 October 2021 on the mentioned charges.
