Accused in court for illegal roadworthy certificates

The accused, Tlali Jacob Letaba (45) appeared before the Ficksburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 18 October 2021 where he faced charges of fraud and corruption.

This comes after the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein received information about Letaba of issuing unlawful motor vehicle roadworthy certificates with examiners from different private testing stations in the Eastern Cape. It is alleged that he issued this certificate without the vehicles being inspected by authorized examiners. The victims will then be instructed to pay the gratification of R1100.

An operation was then conducted on Friday, 15 October 2021 where police arranged with Letaba to issue a motor vehicle roadworthy certificate. He demanded a gratification of R1100. He was then arrested after receiving the money.

He was released on R2000 bail and the case was remanded to 12 December 2021 for further investigation.
