MEC Nkonyeni hands over 109-million rand state-of-the-art integrated public transport facility in Umzimkhulu.

As part of the Provincial government’s effort of improving public transportation the Department of Transport Today, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 officially handed over a state-of-the-art Integrated Public Transport Facility to the community of Umzimkhulu under Harry Gwala District.

The Integrated Public Transport Facility which has been identified as a ‘transport hub’ that will improve the economy within the Harry Gwala District has two sites. One site will be utilised by taxis and the other will be used by buses. Both sites will have space for traders and vendors to sell including workshop buildings.

The facility will have the capacity to accommodate approximately 173 taxis (90 under covered bays) and 18 buses (10 under covered bays). Throughout the construction process at least 80 job opportunities were created. Forty-one of those who benefited were young people, 21 were women and 7 were people living with disabilities.
