5-Year-old flees burning home in Avoca

The upper level of a double-story home was gutted in a fire on Mill Road in Avoca, KZN.

A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was traveling along Nandi Drive when he noticed smoke billowing from the home. The Officer called for additional backup and responded to the property where he found the upper level engulfed in flames.

The public initially informed Reaction Officers that a 5-year-old boy was trapped in the house. RUSA Members conducted a search for the minor and found him running on Mill Road. He stated that he was alone in the house when the fire started and fled in search of his father who had proceeded to a local tuck shop. Firefighters arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze. A portion of the roof collapsed. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was not established.
