Tree collapses on daycare facility in Hambanathi

Two people were injured after a large tree crashed through the roof of a daycare facility on Msimbithi Road in Hambanathi, KZN a short while ago.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Center received multiple calls from residents from 15:43 requesting assistance. Some callers informed the controller on duty that there were entrapments in the house.
All available Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were dispatched to the property. On arrival, RUSA Members found that three minors aged between one and four as well as three adults were removed from the house by neighbors.

It was established that the property was being utilized as a daycare facility for children. A large tree collapsed onto the house and broke through the asbestos roof. Two females aged 43 and 55 sustained minor injuries after they were struck by falling debris.

The children were not injured.
