Lifeguards Rescue Man From Drowning: Umdloti Beach – KZN

A 46-year-old man was rescued by Lifeguards after he experienced difficulty while attempting to assist a relative at Umdloti Beach in Umdloti, KZN today (Saturday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received four calls from the public reporting two people drowning near the tidal pool. Reaction Officers and Medics were immediately dispatched while the RUSA Robinson R44 helicopter was being prepped for take-off. RUSA Members arrived on the scene at approximately 11:49 and confirmed that the bather had been rescued by Lifeguards. The helicopter take off was then aborted.

According to man’s family, he noticed his nephew experiencing difficulty when he went to his rescue. His nephew grabbed onto him when he started experiencing difficulty. Lifeguards managed to safely retrieve him from the surf. His relative made his own way out of the water.

Medics examined the fatigued swimmer, however he declined further medical assistance.
