Man shot with homemade gun in Ndwedwe

A 37-year-old man was shot with a homemade gun and dumped on the side of the road during a hijacking in Ndwedwe, KZN.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance from a passerby. According to the caller, a man was lying on an unpaved road bleeding excessively from an injury to his neck.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and on arrival, it was established that the male was shot during a hijacking. He informed Reaction Officers that he and a work colleague were delivering electrical cables in the area with a white Hyundai H100 with registration ND 318 539 when the occupants of a white bakkie (model and registration unknown) accosted them.

The victim was forced into the Hyundai H100 bakkie while his driver fled on foot. As the suspects sped off they shot the man in the neck with a homemade firearm and dumped him on the roadside.

The injured male’s colleague flagged down a passing vehicle and was transported to his place of employment in Springfield Park, Durban. He was not injured.

The gunshot victim was stabilized on the scene before being transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
