Unlicensed firearm recovered in Mlungisi, Komani

On Tuesday 25 January 2022, positive information was received about possession of an unlicensed firearm at an identified address in the Newvale locality of Mlungisi, Komani.

On Friday 28 January 2022, an intelligence-driven operation in co-operation with the Queenstown K9-dog unit and Flying Squad was held at the identified address which led to the arrest of a 44-year-old male for Possession of an unlicensed firearm. A stolen firearm with one magazine and no rounds were confiscated from the suspect.

The suspect will appear before the Queenstown Magistrates Court on Monday, 31 January 2022.

The Acting Chris Hani District Commissioner, Brigadier Mabel Magqashela welcomed the arrest made and the stolen firearm recovered and said “The efforts to fight the proliferation of illegal firearms remains an operational priority for the South African Police Service”.
