Suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

The Crime Prevention Unit members from SAPS Langlaagte conducted a high-density operation led by the Visible Policing Head, Captain Mampa.

While busy with stop and searches at Komane Street in Riverlea, a female suspect was searched and two 9mm and R5 live ammunition was found in her possession.

In a separate incident at Bembezi corner, Ashburton Street in Riverlea, while the police were patrolling, they noticed four males sitting at the park. When the said males saw the police they ran in different directions.

The police gave chase and managed to arrest one of the males. Upon searching the man, a firearm with ammunition was found in his possession. The firearm’s serial number was filled off.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes.

The investigation is underway and both suspects will be appearing in court soon.

The Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Sibanda applauded the members for their vigilance and crime-fighting efforts.
