Six cashiers appeared in court for allegations of theft

The Mthatha Serious Commercial Crimes Court released on warning Siyamukelwa Mokwena (25), Zenande Teti (24), Anelisiwe Mfiki (30), Asanda Sikade (26), Siphamandla Pawula (23), and Siyamthanda Lothe (30) after their arrest by the Mthatha based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team of the Hawks for allegations of theft on 31 March 2022.

It is alleged that during the period between 1 October 2021 and 11 January 2022 the suspects were employed as cashiers by Ikwezi Engen Garage in Mthatha, operating tills and Hollywood company machine installed in the garage. It is reported that the suspects were instructed by the garage management to create personal pins in order to operate the Hollywood machine.

It is further alleged that on 11 January 2022 the complainant received a phone call from a sales consultant of Hollywood machine company querying the voucher that rang within a minute amounting to R10 000-00. She indeed checked the machine and confirmed the amount. It is said that she checked the point of sale and noticed that vouchers were not scanned from the point of sale and on further investigation she discovered that more vouchers were not scanned via Hollywood machine.

The complaint was lodged with the Hawks for a probe. Investigations revealed that the business was prejudiced cash to the value of more than R550 000-00. The six were arrested on 31 March 2022 and appeared in court where they were released on warning. The matter is remanded to 22 April 2022 for copies of the dockets.
