Gauteng police continues relentless to fight crime in the province

In an effort to ensure that communities feel safe and protected as mandated by the Constitution to prevent, combat and investigate crime, maintain law and order and bring to book those who disregard the law, the Gauteng police continue to conduct various crime combating operations throughout the province under the umbrella of “Operation O Kae Molao”.

The operation is an integrated multidisciplinary approach seeking to deal with any form of criminal activities in the province. It is led by the SAPS with the support of various law enforcement agencies such as the Traffic Department, Metro Police Department, and Immigration from Department of Home Affairs, Community Police Forum, Tracker and Fidelity.

This weekend the operation saw more than 700 suspects being arrested throughout the province for different crimes including rape, sexual offences, murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of suspected stolen property, illegal trading of liquor, dealing in drugs, driving under the influence of liquor and undocumented persons.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Girly Mbele led the operation that was conducted in Honeydew at Johannesburg District where 37 undocumented person where brought in to be processed by Department of Home Affairs while the Detectives arrested 136 wanted suspects for various crimes during a tracing operation and two people arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicle.

The police in Ekurhuleni District arrested 432 suspects of which 12 were for possession of drugs, two for dealing in drugs and four illegal shebeens were closed and fines were also issued for contravening the Liquor Act.

In Tshwane District, 235 suspects were arrested during an operation on tracing of wanted suspects. The police further closed down 10 liquor outlets for selling liquor without a valid license including failure to comply to comply with the Liquor Act, 16 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and 39 undocumented person were also brought in to be processed by Department of Home Affairs.

Police in West Rand District also continued with efforts to fight crime within their communities. They arrested 125 suspects during the operation which focused on tracing of wanted suspects, roadblocks, compliance inspection at liquor outlets and second hand goods dealerships.

The police further seized illegal firearms, ammunition, liquor, drugs, and dangerous weapons and issued Traffic fines for contravening the Road Traffic Act.
