Two suspects arrested in the Johannesburg CBD for armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

Two male suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover and Operations officers in the Johannesburg CBD for armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On Friday 22 April 2022 whilst patrolling along Von Wielligh Street, officers came across five males robbing a male victim. One male suspect shot the victim twice in the chest whilst robbing him.

Officers approached the suspects and they immediately started running in different directions.

Officers gave chase and the suspects started to fire shots at the police, and the officers continued to chase after them.

Two suspects were apprehended and three managed to evade arrest by fleeing on foot. The suspect that shot the victim was amongst the two that were arrested and the firearm that was used was also recovered in possession of the suspect.
An ambulance was called for the wounded victim and he was transported to the hospital in a critical condition.

The two suspects were charged and detained at Johannesburg Central SAPS. The firearm with the serial numbers filed off and six live ammunition were seized and booked in at Johannesburg Central SAPS.
