High visibility of rapid response services resulted in the recovery of 28 stolen/hijacked vehicles

The high visibility patrols of the units under Rapid Response Services resulted in the recovery of 28 stolen and hijacked vehicles in one week. Some suspects were found still stripping off the vehicles, while some vehicles we recovered were parked at the car wash. Subsequently, fourteen people were arrested.

The last vehicle was recovered by Sedibeng K9 unit when members were patrolling the Evaton area and found two suspicious vehicles parked at the carwash. The car wash was not operating by the time the vehicles were sported. Members observed and swiftly responded and a Silver Mercedes Benz and Toyota Fortuner, each with the driver. On further inquiries, it was found out that the Mercedes Benz had a Johannesburg Central case.

We appeal to the communities to report any suspicious activity in their areas like the unloading of quantities of merchandise and or unfamiliar vehicles parked for a long time with no occupants. Members of the community can report to SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or via MySAPS App.

All the suspects will be appearing before the different Magistrate’s Courts soon facing charges of possession of stolen/hijacked vehicles.
