Two suspects arrested in Bekkersdal for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

SAPS members of West Rand District Crime Intelligence and SAPS Bekkersdal arrested two suspects, both aged 25, on Friday, 20 May 2022 in Bekkersdal for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to a preliminary report, an intelligence-driven operation was executed on Friday night. Information led the team to an identified address in Bekkersdal where a search of the premises was conducted. This resulted in the members recovering an unlicensed firearm and various assorted rounds of ammunition.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests to determine whether it may be linked to other serious crimes committed.

The two suspects are expected to appear before a Magistrates’ court soon.
