Fish Hoek SAPS members arrest suspect for illegal possession of abalone

Efforts to root out the illegal trade of abalone in the Western Cape and bring the perpetrators thereof to book saw a 24-year-old male land behind bars when members of the Fish Hoek Crime Prevention Unit arrested him in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The members received information about a blue Toyota Etios transporting abalone heading towards the Fish Hoek area. The vehicle was stopped on the corner of Kommetjie Road and Ou Kaapse Weg where the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran away. The members managed to apprehend the one suspect and took him back to the vehicle and searched it. A total of 448 shucked and 11 shelled abalone was found in the vehicle and confiscated.

The suspect will appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrates Court on Friday on a charge of possession of abalone.
