Suspects arrested in possession of two unlicensed firearms and stolen property in Bellevue

Four male suspects were arrested on charges of possession of two unlicensed firearms and stolen property by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Operations officers in Bellevue, Johannesburg.

On Thursday evening 28 July 2022, whilst conducting Buya Mthetho high visibility block patrols officers stopped a suspicious black BMW sedan with four male occupants.

Officers searched the vehicle and suspects, one unlicensed firearm was recovered. Whilst continuing with their search, an owner of a nearby tuck shop approached the officers and alleged that the four males had just robbed his
shop at gunpoint. The owner of the shop also alluded that the males were all armed.

Officers continued to thoroughly search the vehicle and another unlicensed firearm was found hidden in a compartment in the back seat. A television set and two cell phones robbed from the tuck shop owner were also recovered by the officers.

All four suspects were arrested and detained at Yeoville SAPS. They will appear in court in due course. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized by the police.
