Woman shot with pellet gun after argument over underwear

A woman was shot with a pellet gun during an argument with a couple she claimed mocked her for not using underwear while shopping at a supermarket in Verulam – KZN this afternoon (Monday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at 18:14 from a member of the public requesting assistance after a man allegedly produced a firearm for a female in the parking lot of the shopping centre. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival met with three irate women.

One of the female’s informed Reaction Officers that she was shopping with her sisters when a couple standing behind them at the till point allegedly mocked her for not using underwear. The woman went on to explain that the couple continued passing remarks that they could get a foul smell in the queue. She confirmed that she was not using underwear which may have been noticed due her being dressed in leggings. She also stated that she rushed to the store shortly after taking a shower and decided to go commando.

The woman and her sisters confronted the couple when argument ensued. The confrontation continued to the parking lot when the male allegedly drew a pellet gun and shot one of the females on her leg. The couple then got into their silver VW Polo and drove off prior to the arrival of Reaction Officers. It has been confirmed that the female has registered a criminal case at the Verulam SAPS.

Approximately 30 minutes following the incident, the silver VW Polo arrived at RUSA Headquarters. The occupants met with Reaction Officers and confirmed that they were involved in the confrontation with the three females. The man and his wife explained that they were standing behind the three females at the till point but denied making defamatory remarks towards the free buffing female.

They claimed that the woman confronted them claiming after that they were mocking her due to her not using underwear. The woman allegedly became enraged and used profanity on them. The couple allegedly walked out of the store but were followed to the parking lot where they were allegedly assaulted. The male confirmed that he was in possession of a pellet gun which was holstered throughout the confrontation. They allegedly drove off to avoid further conflict.
The couple also opted to register a criminal case.
