A 9-year-old boy is presumed to have drowned while swimming with friends in a river in Ogunjini – KZN.
Residents contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 20:29 requesting assistance. RUSA Members were dispatched to the scene and on arrival met with the family of the child.
They explained that the boy was swimming with friends at approximately 14:00 when he attempted to retrieve a five litre plastic gallon which they utilised as a floatation device. At some stage, he experienced difficulty and disappeared underwater. His friends allegedly fled thereafter. Other children playing in the vicinity witnessed the incident. They entered the river and searched for the boy without success.
They then informed the community who contacted RUSA for assistance.
