Job seeker stabbed during robbery in Phoenix

A 53-year-old job seeker was stabbed and assaulted during a robbery on the R102 between Ottawa and Phoenix – KZN.

The victim arrived at his Starling Place residence in Mountview – KZN at approximately 18:35 bleeding from a stab wound to his right arm. He advised his family that he was walking along the R102 towards Phoenix when he was confronted by four males who dragged him over the metal barrier into the bush. Two suspects were armed with firearms and their accomplices were in possession of knives.

They assaulted him and demanded valuables. While removing his valuables, they discovered two ATM cards. The victim was forced to hand over his pin. Two suspects remained in the bush while their accomplices proceeded to an ATM to withdraw cash from his account. The two men returned approximately three hours later and continued assaulting the victim due to a lack of funds in his account. They stabbed him prior to releasing him. The robbers fled with his cell phone and cash.

The victim’s family contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for medical assistance. RUSA Members were dispatched and on arrival treated the man for his injuries.
