Victim presumed deceased dumped in a cane field in Canelands

A 47-year-old man who was presumed to be deceased was located four days after being dumped in a sugar cane field in Canelands – KZN.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from a herdsman at approximately 15:09 after he discovered the victim. On arrival, the man informed Reaction Officers that on Friday (07/03/2023), he was confronted by three men who robbed him for a speaker near his residence in Hazelmere – KZN. The men thereafter began assaulting him with sticks.

His attackers presumed that he lost consciousness. They wrapped him in a blanket & transported him in a wheelbarrow through dense vegetation before they carried him across a river and dumped him in the cane field. His attackers thereafter fled the scene.

The victim regained consciousness the following morning and discovered that both his legs were fractured. He dragged himself out of the cane. He lay on the unpaved road for three days until he was discovered by the herdsman today.
The injured male was transported to the hospital for medical attention.
