MEC Shongwe condemns the shooting at a vehicle which led to an injury of a minor

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, has demanded a full report surrounding the circumstances that led to the multiple shooting of a vehicle in White River recently that saw an 11-year-old child sustaining injuries.

The shooting was reportedly made by a well-known private security company in the area.

The MEC says that although two people from the said company have been arrested, security companies must not shoot when there is no imminent danger.

“Private security companies play an important role in preventing crime. We have seen many cases where their prompt actions have assisted to foil criminal activities and even saving lives.

Therefore, we will await the outcome of this case, but at the same time, we want them to always be vigilant in order to act accordingly and not endanger other people’s lives,” said Shongwe.
