Unidentified female tries to commit suicide with rat poison after job loss in Tongaat

A 22-year-old female consumed rat poison (picture 2) in an attempt to end her life after losing her job.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre received a call from an employee from a fast food outlet on Gopalall Hurbans Road in the Tongaat CBD – KZN requesting assistance for the semi-conscious woman.

RUSA Medical Personnel were immediately dispatched and on arrival at approximately 14:18 discovered the female convulsing on the floor of the outside eating area. She was stabilised on scene with assistance of Paramedics from a private ambulance service before being transported to hospital by ambulance.

A suicide note written in iSiZulu was discovered on the table next to her. It stated that she intended on ending her life due to her continuously experiencing spiritual attacks while at work. The letter further explained that she performed all rituals to please her ancestors however the spiritual attacks continued resulting in her losing her job.

The female has not been identified at this stage.
