Disruptive operations lead to the arrest of two suspects for possession of drugs

Chika Chukwuemeka Fafour (29) and Dickson Emeka Njoku (43) appeared in the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 08 May 2023, on charges of possession of suspected illicit drugs and an additional charge of contravention of Section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No.13 of 2002).

Fafour will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Friday, 12 May 2023, for a formal bail application. The matter against Dickson Emeka Njoku (43) was postponed until Wednesday, 14 June 2023 for further investigation. He was granted bail of R8000-00.

The accused’s arrest stems from a follow-up made on information received on Friday, 05 May 2023, by the Provincial Organised Crime about two vehicles that were traveling on Albert Luthuli road towards Promosa in Potchefstroom, to deliver drugs. The said vehicles; a white Hyundai and a red Volkswagen Polo were eventually stopped at two different spots by local police and the Provincial Drugs Task Team members.

Drugs to the value of R50 000.00 were found in the Hyundai and a 29-year-old suspect was arrested. A while later the red Volkswagen Polo was stopped near Promosa Gravy yard on Albert Luthuli. Upon searching the car, 38 crystal meth and two big sealed plastic bags containing 32 units of Cat, and eight bags containing heroin with an estimated street value of R30 000.00 were found.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant Sello Kwena lauded the members for arresting the suspects as part of ridding communities of drugs.
