The protection of essential infrastructure brings duo to book in the Klein Karoo

The focus on the protection of essential infrastructure and to bring those threatening the viability of the economy within this region to book, led to the arrest of two suspects after a substantial amount of cable was found in their possession in the Klein Karoo town Ladismith.

On Thursday, 22 June 2023 Ladismith police operationalized intelligence which took them to Laingsburg Road about five kilometer outside Ladismith. The members arrived on the site and found four bundles of cables, about 100 meters in total, lying on the ground. Two suspects aged 17 and 18 were found on the site and were unable to account for their possession thereof. The police confiscated the find and arrested the pair on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property each.

It is believed that the find was removed along the Laingsburg road earlier.

In an unrelated matter, in Oudtshoorn, on Friday, 23 June 2023 Oudtshoorn police members conducted stop and search operations along Jones Street, Oudtshoorn when they searched a man. The team found two 44mm brass valves in his possession and he was unable to account for his possession thereof. He was subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

All arrested suspects are expected to make their first court appearance on Monday, 26 June 2023.

Western Cape police management reaffirmed the commitment to eradicate essential infrastructure damages in the province. Similar operations will be sustained to protect essential infrastructure in this region.

These arrests and confiscations are part of endeavours to bring those threatening the economic viability of this region to book.
