Police hunt murder suspects following the death of six people and further injuries in Kwanobuhle

Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene has immediately instructed detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation to hunt down the perpetrators responsible for the death of six people and further injury to 4 other people at a house in Mdledle Street in Kwanobuhle last night, 11 July 2023.

It is alleged that at about 19:40, three unknown males entered the yard and opened fired at people who were in the property or nearby to the house. Two females were shot at the gate. One female succumbed to her injuries while the other sustained gunshot wounds.

A further 8 people were shot, leaving 5 dead (males) and 3 others injured. Total number of deceased persons are 6 (5 males and 1 female) and 4 (3 males and 1 female) injured.

Names and ages are still to be ascertained. The injured were taken to hospital. The motive for the massacre is unknown at this stage.

A case of murder x 6 and attempted murder x 4 is under investigation.

Lt Gen Mene has condemned the senseless killing and has called on the community to assist police in tracing the perpetrators immediately. She has urged the team of investigators to track and trace the perpetrators in the quickest time possible. “Such acts are cowardice and a blatant disregard for human life as well as the law. These criminals must not be allowed to roam our streets any longer hence, we are appealing to the community of Kwanobuhle to work with the police to bring justice to the deceased and the injured persons,” added Lt Gen Mene.

Informers may remain anonymous and all information will be treated with strictest confidence.
