A 27-year-old alleged hitman is expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrates’ Court today, 21 July 2023 for the death of the Ethekwini Metropolitan police in May 2023.
Captain Zwelakhe Ntombela (50) was shot and killed whilst he was arriving at his home in Umlazi on 3 May 2023. The deceased was also robbed of his private and services pistols. A case was reported to Umlazi police which prompted an investigation by the Durban based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation.
The suspect was arrested by the Hawks’ team in collaboration with the National Intervention Unit, Kwadukuza police, Mayville Visible Policing, and private security guards in the early hours of 20 July 2023 at Umsinga area where he was hiding. The deceased’ firearms were recovered from the suspect’s homestead at KwaMaphumulo.
The arrest of the main suspect is imminent as the investigation is continuing.
