Garden Route Flying Squad recovers stolen vehicle and goods in Riversdale

The effectiveness of partnership policing and the use of technology were in full display when Garden Route District Flying Squad members and several role-players ensured that a stolen motor vehicle is recovered in Riversdale.

On Sunday, 30 July 2023, at about 13:30 the role-players which included police units, farm watch groups and a local security company combined resources in pursuit of a Volvo SUV, stolen in George the previous night. The team spotted the vehicle traveling along the N2 highway pass the turnoff to Still Bay towards Riversdale. They later pulled over the vehicle at a petrol filling station at the entrance of Riversdale. A search of the vehicle and suspects ensued when small quantities of tik as well as heroin were found in possession of the driver of the vehicle. All four occupants of the vehicle were arrested on a charge of possession of stolen property.

Further investigation took the Flying Squad and Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team(CCT) members to a house at Adriaan Street, Mossel Bay. A search of the residence led to the recovery of various items stolen from the vehicle. The police confiscated music instruments, sound equipment and cutlery at the premises.

The driverof the vehicle, aged 38, is also facing charges of possession of drugs as well as an additional charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

All arrested suspects aged between 29 and 38 will remain in police custody and are expected to make their first court appearance in the Riverdale Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 01 August 2023 on the mentioned charges.
