Suspect arrested with hunting firearms

In an intelligence driven operation, a 27-year-old man was arrested on 24 August 2023 in the Mqanduli area for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

It is alleged that at about 02:30, a search warrant was executed by the OR Tambo Tactical Response Team and Crime Intelligence at Bizani location in Kwenxurha in the Mqanduli area. Three hunting rifles and ammunition were recovered. The suspect could not account for the possession of the rifles and was arrested.

He was detained on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The rifles will be sent to ballistics to determine ownership. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

OR Tambo District Commissioner, Maj Gen Pumzile Cetyana commended the team on the recoveries and stated that, ‘I am extremely pleased with the diligent efforts of our members in successfully recovering these firearms and ammunition as well as effecting an arrest. This accomplishment underscores our commitment to enhancing public safety and removing dangerous weapons from or streets.’
