Two suspects arrested for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm in Selby, Johannesburg

Two males aged 30 and 32 were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm in Selby, Johannesburg.

Officers were on patrol on Friday, 01 September 2023, when they came across an armed robbery and what appeared to be an attempted hijacking by a group of men at the corners of Anderson Street and Main Reef Road, Selby.

The officers activated the blue lights and siren, and the men fled into a nearby open space. The officers gave chase and apprehended two suspects, recovering one unlicensed firearm, one live round of ammunition and the victim’s cellphone.

The victim was summoned to the scene and he positively identified the suspects as the ones that robbed him.

The duo were detained at Johannesburg Central SAPS and they are due to appear in court during the week.
