The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Cable Theft Unit responded to a complaint on Saturday, 18 November 2023, about suspected stolen cables at Proclamation Hill in Pretoria West. Upon arrival, they found two male suspects who were in possession of two rolls of copper cables.
Upon further questioning, the two suspects led the officers to a security guard at Pretoria West Substation from where the cables were stolen. The suspects admitted to working with the security guard in connection with the stolen copper cables. The suspects alerted the officers that there were other cables hidden in the bushes and that they were waiting for the security guard’s call to go collect the stolen cables so they could sell them.
The security guard then made a call to one of the suspects so they could meet up. When the security guard arrived at the said location, he was arrested on the spot for defeating the ends of justice and conspiracy to commit crime.
The TMPD members managed to recover all the stolen copper cables and the two suspects were arrested for possession of
suspected stolen copper cables and tampering with essential infrastructure.
A separate success was during a drunken driving joint operation that was conducted in Mamelodi on the same date by regional members, where four people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and 68 fines were issued for various road infringements.
In the Pretoria CBD, one suspect was arrested by members from the TMPD Accident Unit with the Crime Intelligence Unit for fraud. The suspect has an office where he sells fraudulent documents from Home Affairs, licencing departments and other institutions. In his office he was found busy with fraudulent documents for a vehicle. All sorts of fraudulent documents were found in his office, ranging from fake licences, fake identity documents, fake bank statements, fake matric certificates and fake doctor’s notes, among others.
TMPD By-laws members also conducted a joint operation with other stake holders in the Sunnyside area where illegal street traders were removed from the streets. They were given several opportunities to apply for trading licences and they failed to comply.
