The Western Cape multi-disciplinary kidnaping task team comprising of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Provincial Organised Crime, Crime Intelligence and Hostage Negotiation Team have on Friday, 01 December 2023 arrested a 35-year-old suspect on charges of kidnapping.
His arrest emanates from an incident where a 20-year-old victim was allegedly kidnapped in Strand during March 2023 where a ransom was demanded for his release. A ransom was allegedly paid by the family of the victim to the amount of R150 000-00.
The investigation team followed all the leads until Friday, 01 December 2023 when information was received about the whereabouts of the suspect in Bellville. The team pounced on the suspect and arrested him.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect is also wanted on a case of Extortion and Intimidation that occurred in Strandfontein during October 2023.
He will appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 04 December 2023.
