A 22 year old man has been restrained and arrested after he held his family against their will & assaulted his nine (9) year old sister, forty three (43) year old mother & seventy five (75) year old grandmother.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received the call for assistance from the suspects mother at approx. 15:02 (Wednesday) seeking immediate assistance. The mother informed the Control Room Operator that her son was holding them in the home and had earlier deprived them of their mobile phones so they could not call for assistance. He demanded cash to purchase mandrax tablets.
Reaction Officers got to the home in Redcliffe – Kwazulu Natal (address withheld) and found the man at the entrance. He was immediately restrained.
When Reaction Officers interviewed the three females, it was established that they all were assaulted while being held against their will. The grandmother suffered open wounds to her face & right leg. The complainants pointed out a door forced open by the suspect in search of cash. During the altercation, the mother managed to retrieve her mobile phone & call the RUSA Operations Center for assistance.
The mother then produced a Protection Order issued by the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on November 30, 2023. According to the woman, the suspect violated the Court Order on the day it was issued. She was threatened not to report the matter & repeatedly assaulted until he was given R40 to purchase drugs.
Reaction Officers handed over the 22 year old to the South African Police Services (SAPS).
