Thohoyandou police are hot on the heels of unknown suspects responsible for murder and malicious damage to property

The South African Police Service in Thohoyandou under Vhembe District are hot on the heels of three unknown male suspects responsible for murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property at Miluwani Unit C outside Thohoyandou on Sunday 17 December 2023.

It is alleged that a group of people called “Jerusalem Stockvel” erected a tent on the street and started drinking alcohol in the afternoon. At about 21:10, three unknown male suspects arrived at the premises wearing balaclavas and started shooting the patrons without saying anything. During the incident, a 49-year-old male was shot multiple times on the upper body including a 38 year-old male shot on the stomach and left hand.

Furthermore, a 32-year-old woman was shot on the right foot together with a 44 year-old male shot on the left leg. Afterwards, the suspects randomly fired shots at the three motor vehicles belonging to the victims and later disappeared into the darkness on foot.

Police and members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned at the scene and a 49-year-old male was certified dead upon their arrival. The other three victims were transported to an unspecified hospital where they are currently admitted for medical treatment.

The motive of the incident is unknown at this stage and investigations are ongoing. Police have opened a case of murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

Police investigations are continuing.
