Two men nabbed for attacking relatives in Majola

Police arrested two men following their alleged brazen attack in Ngcose locality, Machibi A/A in Port St Johns yesterday afternoon, 19 December 2023.

It is alleged that on Tuesday at about 17:45, two men from Mhlotsheni location (Port St Johns) armed with a firearm and spears went to two homesteads in Ngcose locality (Port St Johns), where in the first homestead, they stabbed a 29-year-old man, and also damaged the property. In the second homestead, it is alleged that the two suspects torched it, but the occupants managed to escape, however their whereabouts are still unknown. It is further alleged that residents tried to intervene, but one of the suspects fired several gunshots, and thereafter fled on foot. No person was injured during the shooting.

Moments later, police specialised units responded to the complaint, and the two suspects aged 18 and 26 years old were arrested from a house in Mhlotsheni Location. Police also recovered a home-made shotgun with ammunition and two spears.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the motive for the attack was a family feud, and the two suspects are related to the victims.

The two men aged 18 and 26 are due to appear in the Port St Johns magistrate’s court tomorrow (Thursday, 21 December 2023) on charges of arson, attempted murder assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and malicious damage to property.
