Elderly female suspect arrested for dealing in drugs with a street value of approximately R140 000

On Wednesday 27 December 2023, Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Crime Intelligence and Umgungundlovu District Task Team, arrested an elderly female suspect for dealing in drugs.

Members received information about drug dealing activities at Sweetwaters taxi rank. They proceeded to the said taxi rank where they found the suspect sitting in the vehicle.

A search was conducted and pieces of rock cocaine to the street value of approximately R140 000.00 were found.

One suspect managed to escape whilst the 61-year-old female was placed under arrest and charged for dealing in drugs. Police also confiscated R37 327.00 cash that was suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

She is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court today.
