Investigation leads to the recovery of a hijacked vehicle and a prohibited firearm and ammunition

Concerted efforts by members of the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Taxi Violence Unit, whilst probing the circumstances surrounding a murder reported in Milnerton, led to the successfully recovery of a hijacked motor vehicle in Delft on Wednesday 31 January 2024.

The members pursued sensitive information at their disposal which led the investigation team to Delft to trace suspects in possession of a Toyota Corolla, believed to have been taken during a murder which was committed in Milnerton on Sunday, 21 January 2024 where a 30-year-old male was shot and killed and another seriously injured.

Upon entering Gushindoda informal settlement, police located the vehicle and saw two men tampering in the engine compartment. The two men fled when they became aware of the presence of the police officers. The police members chased the suspects and apprehended one of the men. Further inspection of the vehicle led to the confiscation of a firearm with ammunition. They arrested the 19-year-old man on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle as well as the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile police members of Western Cape K9 Unit responded to information indicating that presumed stolen goods were stored at an identified premises. The team proceeded to an address in Gugulethu and searched the entire premises and confiscated 85 mobile phones, one laptop, two routers and an undisclosed amount of cash. The items which were seized has been handed in as exhibits at Milnerton SAPS.

The suspects are expected to make their court appearances in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges, once charged.
